DAMEON LESTER was born in Concord, North Carolina in 1973 and raised in Salem, Virginia. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he obtained a BFA in sculpture at VCU’s School of the Arts. While in undergrad, he seized the opportunity to study abroad at Loughborough College of Art & Design in the UK and Technikon Natal in South Africa.

After graduation, he relocated to Las Vegas via Chicago, attending the University of Nevada for his MFA. Moving to Los Angeles in 2000, he held a number of art-related positions, while developing an interest in education. Dameon began attending Cal State LA, working towards his MA in Special Education, while attaining his teaching credential. For three years he taught the severely emotionally disturbed in Los Angeles and the mild to moderate handicapped in Long Beach, CA. After a hiatus from his initial path of intent, he returned to art as a full-time endeavor — eventually finding the ideal environment.

Dameon is currently employed at Otis College of Art and Design as a lead shop technician. He maintains the wood and metal shops, educating and working closely with students, turning their designs into reality. He enjoys the daily barrage of problem-solving challenges working with various materials and processes, utilizing both theory and practice — which continuously motivates his own art.
